Appearance Day of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

Gaura Purnima - Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

Kali Yuga is a period of general decay in the conditions of the world gradually leading to its destruction. Consequently human society deteriorates to a state without the culture of God Consciousness. Human progress is linked to economic development instead of spiritual advancement. It is an era of darkness, discontent and strife.

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Krishna Himself who advented on the earth 531 years ago in the holy land of Mayapur in West Bengal. He wished to establish a method of spiritual advancement that could be easily executed by the spiritually enervated souls of the fallen age and that, which would propel them to the highest echelons of Krishna Consciousness.

He inaugurated the Sankirtana Movement – the movement of congregational chanting of the holy names of Krishna. He predicted that people in every town and village of the world would immerse themselves in His transcendental movement.

Today millions of devotees of Lord Chaitanya spread all over the world are sincerely practicing the teachings of Lord Chaitanya.

Krishna consciousness begins with the highest understanding of God as a master, friend, son or lover. This knowledge of intimate loving relationship with God beyond the conceptions of awe and reverence was the highest benediction offered by Lord Chaitanya to the fallen people of Kali Yuga.

Lord Chaitanya revealed the intense moods of Srimati Radharani’s devotional service to Krishna. These mellows of transcendental relationship were never before shown to humanity by any other Avatara or discussed by any Acharya.

The appearance of Lord Chaitanya is therefore an occasion for devotees to relish and glorify the transcendental blessings of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
