Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the unparalleled philosophical treatise was spoken about five thousand years ago by Lord Krishna to Arjuna at Kurukshetra just before the onset of the battle of Mahabharata. It was narrated by Lord Krishna on the day of Mokshada Ekadashi, which falls on the eleventh day of the waxing moon (shuklapaksha) in the Vedic lunar month of Margashirsha.
It is the essence of Vedic knowledge and is also known as Gitopanisad.
Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of the worldwide Hare Krishna Movement says – “If one properly follows the instructions of Bhagavad-gita, one can be freed from all miseries and anxieties in this life, and one’s next life will be spiritual.”
To propagate the message of Srimad Bhagavad Gita Prabhupada instituted a book marathon month in the month of Gita Jayanthi. During this period followers of Prabhupada take extra measures to distribute Bhagavad Gita far and wide. To encourage the readers, Gita and other books on spirituality are also sold at discounted price. Even free gifts like calendars and bookmarks are offered.
This year Gita Jayanthi will be celebrated on Friday, 25th December 2020.
