Sri Krishna Janmashtami
Five thousand years ago, Lord Krishna descended on this planet to deliver the pious, annihilate the demons, and re-establish the principles of religion. He was born in Mathura on Ashtami at midnight in the auspicious month of Shravana to Vasudeva and Devaki. However, on the instruction of Krishna, Vasudeva exchanged his son with the daughter of Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda. Krishna's birth ceremony was conducted in the house of King Nanda and Yashoda in Vrindavan with great joy and happiness.
Even to this day, Janmashtami is celebrated with much grandeur in the sacred land of Vrindavan. The whole town is filled with transcendental vibrations of chanting and singing the Lord's holy names. Devotees clean and decorate the temples, prepare varieties of offerings, observe fasting till midnight and participate in the festive activities welcoming Lord Krishna.
Sri Krishna Janmashtami falls on 30th August this year. Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir has planned various programmes on the occasion of Lord Krishna's divine appearance. A talk series in Hindi called 'Krishna Katha', describing the Lord's childhood pastimes, will be streamed on our YouTube channel and Facebook page from 2nd August 2021 to 1st September 2021.
The temple's sanctum sanctorum will be adorned with flower garlands to create a 'Phool Bangala' for the Lord. A grand Abhishek will be performed on 30th August 2021 to the Deities of Sri Radha Vrindavana Chandra. They will be rocked gently on a beautiful Jhulan amidst devotional renditions. Special food preparations called Rajbhog and Chappan Bhog will be offered to the Deities throughout the day. Makhan Mishri, butter mixed with sugar crystals, will also be offered to Krishna, our beloved Makhanchor. We will be distributing Prasadam to all the Sevakartas, visitors, sadhus and Vaishnavas. The celebrations will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel for the benefit of everyone.
Devotees can take part in the Janmashtami festival of Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir by offering various Sevas for the pleasure of Sri Radha Vrindavanchandra. The Lord will surely recognise your service and bless your family with happiness and prosperity.
