Story
Five thousand years ago, Lord Krishna descended on this planet to deliver the pious, annihilate the demons, and re-establish the principles of religion. He was born in Mathura on ashtami at midnight in the auspicious month of Shravana to Vasudeva and Devaki. However, on the instruction of Krishna, Vasudeva exchanged his son with the daughter of Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda. Krishna's birth ceremony was conducted in the house of King Nanda and Yashoda in Vrindavan with great joy and happiness.

Sri Krishna - the Endearing Lord
Krishna, the darling of Vrindavan, enchanted everyone with His beauty, smile and mischief. The residents of Braj, including the cows and calves, had immense affection for little Krishna. His wonderful pastimes have been described in scriptures like Srimad Bhagavatam. The all-attractive and endearing Lord continues to be adored by devotees across the globe.
Janmashtami - the festival of grandeur and gaiety
Even to this day, Sri Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated with much grandeur in the sacred land of Vrindavan. The whole town will be filled with transcendental vibrations of chanting and singing the Lord's holy names. Devotees clean and decorate the temples, prepare varieties of offerings, observe fasting till midnight and participate in the festivities welcoming Lord Krishna.

Dahi Handi, a popular ritual of breaking the pot of yogurt, is also observed on this occasion, based on Lord Krishna's childhood pastimes. Little Krishna broke the earthen pots hung on the ceiling of the gopis' houses as part of his mischief and shared the freshly churned butter with His friends. This pastime is celebrated during the Dahi Handi event, which has been an age-old tradition in various parts of India.
Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir will be celebrating Sri Krishna Janmashtami on 19 August 2022. The temple's sanctum sanctorum will be adorned with flower garlands to create a 'Phool Bangala' for the Lord. A grand abhishek will be performed to the Deities of Sri Radha Vrindavan Chandra. They will be rocked gently on a beautiful jhula (swing) amidst devotional renditions. Special food preparations called Rajbhog and Chappan Bhog will be offered to the Deities throughout the day. Makhan Mishri, butter mixed with sugar crystals, will also be offered to Krishna, our beloved Makhan chor. We will be distributing prasadam to all the sevakartas, visitors, sadhus and vaishnavas. The celebrations will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel for the benefit of everyone.
Devotees can take part in the Janmashtami festival of Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir by offering various sevas for the pleasure of Sri Radha Vrindavan Chandra. May Lord Krishna bless you and your family with joy, happiness and prosperity.
